driveJohnson's driving school has a fantastic opportunity for anyone wanting to either become a driving instructor or already qualified driving instructors interested in joining their driving school franchise.

About driveJohnson's

driveJohnson’s has been established since 2005 and now covers most areas across the UK. It has a reputation for teaching and passing many celebrities which you can view via the testimonial section of their website.

Since Covid-19, the demand for driving lessons has increased in virtually every area of the UK. Waiting times for driving tests are spiralling up to around 6 months, with more learners than ever wanting to pass their driving test as a result of the back log - naturally, most driving schools (including driveJohnson's) are trying to meet the demands.

driveJohnson's offers a flexible franchise which requires only 4 weeks' notice to leave them. From our research, we found that this is a rare offer from a national driving school. Most driving schools seem to tie their instructors down to long-term contracts, making it difficult to leave. This demonstrates that driveJohnson's are confident in their number of pupil enquiries to be able to provide enough work and keep their driving instructors busy - of which there are currently in excess of 500 across the UK.

What you get in the franchise

One of the main stand outs from driveJohnson's is that they appear to be able to stick to their word and offer enough students. As a driving instructor, this should be a priority; especially to those who are new to the industry or want to hand over the marketing side of the business to someone else.

The franchise fee is also very low. When speaking with them over the phone, we were quoted a franchise fee as low as £50 per week if you were to offer their driving lessons in Spalding as an example.

They have a very impressive instructor app, in addition to an app for their students. Both instructors and students can communicate with one another and with the support team through the apps.

If you join, you can expect to receive a roof sign, progress cars, reflective logs, keyrings, clothing (including polos and fleeces) and more.

You are also offered ongoing support from the team via phone call, app communication, which appears to be why they are so likeable. When speaking to some of their driving instructors, this was one of the things they liked most in comparison to other driving schools: the fact that driveJohnson's is personal, friendly and easily contactable whenever they have a query. One instructor claimed that his previous franchise would only respond by email and you couldn't call them at all.

Our findings and rating

Based on our research, we would award driveJohnson's 4.5 out of 5. The only thing we found slightly disappointing is that they don't have full coverage of the UK yet. When we asked about booking lessons in large places such as Newcastle, they didn't have an instructor available. They have plenty of exposure for driving lessons in London and in the South of England, but they appear to thin out once you pass North of Manchester.

Hands down Red Driving School is without a doubt the worst company I have ever had the misfortune of interacting with. Not "driving school", *company*. Period.

I can barely put into words how disgusted I am with their service, or lack there of. However potential customers of theirs really do need to know just how shockingly bad they are.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use them. I regret h

I had a few lessons with RSM in Birmingham before I moved away. The lessons started off well and I got on with my instructor really well.

I went against everyone's advice to apply for a job that required me to get a full UK driving licence. I did the ring around and nobody could fit me in.
I then called Swift Drive and, although the prices were higher, they were able to provide me with a 20 hour intensive course, driving test and instructor at such short notice.
The instructor was patient (especially considering I was in the

Initially my lessons went well and i was making good progress. However after around 10 hours my instructor would be flakey with my lessons and often cancel as he would take on new students and prioritise them over me. It took me a long time to complete my hours and i moved to a new instructor.
It was a shame as it did start really well and the instructor was good at his job just not committed to
